Anthony Richardson’s injury made me think about the players medical insurance. I assume the Colts pick up the tab for surgery but how are players covered?
What is your gut on what IU is going to do after the football season with Coach Allen? $25 million is a lot but it’s clear the ship is sinking. Maybe they can get an unforeseen win or 2 before the season is over but right now that looks unlikely.
I have always wondered- how come some national media get to keep talking about their fandom for a sports team when I thought that wasn’t highly thought of?
I know you used to work in Denver. Are you surprised that the Broncos organization is struggling so much this past 10 years? It seems like everything they do does not work. Like it is cursed or something. Do you think this is a case of the big bad corporation of Wal-Mart taking over or missing the late great owner Pat Bowlin? It just seems a bit baffling to me.
I grew up reading you in the Indianapolis Star. From your current perch as a newsletter writer, what are your favorite memories from those days--about the city, its sports, and the print era?
I'd LOVE to see a behind-the-scenes series on Bob Kravitz. You clearly share your opinion freely, but face it, we all followed you here. We're are the right audience for this.
Some topics I'd love to read about:
1. What were the "glory days at the newspaper" like?
2. How did that sour over time? Obviously subscription numbers plummeted - how did that look to you through that transition?
3. What's it like to follow a team as you transitioned from paper to The Athletic? Did you get kicked out of the locker room until you got new press credentials? Did Irsay & friends give you a free pass through the transition?
4. What it like to follow a team as you transition to going at it solo? Obviously your budgets are limited (hence your couch in stories). Did you get kicked out of the locker room until you got new press credentials? Did Irsay & friends give you a free pass through the transition? Do you get to attend any/many games?
5. What's your favorite Lucas Oil Stadium food?
6. Etc.
I could go on for a while, but I won't for now. Not unless you actually want more ideas. Then I'll put the effort in. Gotta get back to work for now. But yeah, would like to hear more about the behind-the-scenes stuff and about you. Not looking to get dirt on anything, just to see the sports world from a different perspective! I worked for the sports information department in college, and I know that world was wildly different from what fans saw, and that's what's making me curious here.
I like those idea a lot, Shane. I guess I've never done anything like that before because I didn't think me or my work life were all that interesting. But I'll definitely jump into those. Thanks for subscribing.
Shane’s idea is great. Since you’re not beholding to anyone it would be cool to hear some behind the scenes stories. Plus I was a newspaper guy feeling the anticipation of getting the paper in the morning and seeing what John Bansch, Robin Miller, Bill Benner, Mike Chappell and you would have to say.
Great idea and thanks for asking. It might be helpful to create some type of poll for your subscribers to fill out so you know their greatest interests and can make sure to add a column here and there to satisfy all their cravings. For example, in addition to Colts, Pacers and state college football and basketball coverage, I would like the occasional IMS and IndyCar story/perspective too (although I know that's not generally in your wheelhouse). I also appreciate your insights or perspective on national stories too.
Here's a few other topics to consider if it interests you.
- Should the Pacers build a statue of Reggie Miller? Or, should they have a ring of honor of some sort for past players and, if so, which players should be in that ring of honor?
- What's Peyton Manning's real relationship with the Colts organization? Does he really consider himself more closely aligned with the Bronco's organization and doesn't want Irsay to have any sense of stronger loyalty or association with the Colts?
- Should Tom Allen be fired after this season and, if so, what should IU do to finally try and be relevant in football? Or, is it unrealistic to think anyone can really compete in the Big Ten outside of 3 or 4 teams?
- What would you do differently if you were the president of the NCAA? NBA or NFL commissioner?
- How about a Monday Morning Curmudgeon column on any and all sports topics that happened over the weekend both locally and nationally?
I hate to say this, but it’s the elephant in the room: is AR in the process of becoming Indy’s Trey Lance? Can’t deny that AR has incredible potential, but so did Trey Lance. We need to use the rest of the season to find our version, or some resemblance of, Brock Purdy, as the same thing that happened this year can happen next year too.

We all know you've seen some shit and have stories to tell. So, let's hear them!
No pressure, but I propose the name Kravitz' Crap™ for some portion of the series. You can even keep the trademark. ;-)

Thoughts on the Broncos? Payton was supposed to “fix” Russ but it doesn’t appear to be working.
With AR surgery coming up, do the Colt's even contemplate drafting a QB in the upcoming draft?

You sounding like a “dope” is HALF the fun !.....😜
What are your thoughts on Coach Walters’ tenure thus far and the future of the Purdue football program?
Bob. I was wondering what sports journalists do you read? listen to? stay mad at? or even agree with?
I think the best ones can write about anything, any event, and any of the personalities..kind of like the
small town daily sports editor.(Are there any left?)Keep it provocative..make us think...keep us guessing!!
Tell us, please, that Bruce Brown will not be the second coming of Monta Ellis.
In your opinion, did we see enough from Anthony Richardson to know that he is The Guy?

What are you hearing about the trade rumors between IND and DEN with IND offering Zack Moss for Jerry Jeudy?
