This is a recording: Bench Flacco, play Richardson and find out what the young QB is all about
The Colts are 1-3 with Flacco and it only looks like it's going to get worse. At least get Richardson the reps he so desperately needs.
At this point, Shane Steichen and the Colts brain trust have no choice. The Joe Flacco experiment has been a massive failure, any way you slice it, and it’s time to turn back to Anthony Richardson. I wrote this last week and I’m writing it this week: While Flacco is a solid backup, he’s no longer a winning starter in this league, and it’s time, past time, to turn back to Richardson.
I mean, what else does Steichen need to see?
In Sunday’s 30-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Flacco turned the ball over four times, three interceptions and a lost fumble. In the last two weeks, he’s been responsible for six turnovers. This is supposed to be the answer to the Colts’ seemingly eternal quarterback woes?
Indianapolis fans are relatively tame compared to others throughout the NFL, and yet, there they were, booing Flacco after his first interception – a pick-six on the Colts first play of the game – and then after a second on a play that was blown up, the ball landing in the hands of defensive lineman Austin Johnson, who got the first interception of his entire football career.
When Steichen was asked after the game if he considered turning to Richardson at any point Sunday, he shook his head. “I didn’t, right there,” he said. “Until I say otherwise, right now, Joe’s our guy right now.”
Right now.
Right now.
