There’s no nice or elegant way to say it: The Colts are tanking. (Duh.) That’s not some kind of hot take, but management’s message to their players, their coaches and their fans today is, We’re not about winning this year. We’re looking toward the future.
In one fell swoop Tuesday, they traded away their offensive and defensive pillars, two of their captains, Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner, two of the unquestioned leaders and best players on the roster. (I’m still curious why Ballard didn’t sign him to an extension this past off-season. Very odd.)
Crazy to think, one year ago right about this time, the surging Colts were going for it, trading two first rounders (ugh) to the Jets for Sauce Gardner, who’s been alternately hurt and inconsequential.
Now, they’re emptying the locker room, with the promise of more moves to come.
Who might it be?
