The Colts hit rock bottom and it's time for some heads to roll

I feel strongly that Shane Steichen is back, but Gus Bradley and Chris Ballard have got to go. Question is, is Jim Irsay paying attention? Stay tuned.

MY COUCH, Ind. -- There is one game left in yet another lost Colts’ season – yayyy! -- and it’s abundantly clear by now, heads have got to roll.

On a day that recalled Indy’s atrocious 2021 season-ending loss at Jacksonville, the Colts crapped the bed against the worst offensive team in football, a team that had lost 10 straight, a team that hadn’t won at home all season. Yes, they lost 45-33 to those guys, a Giants team that had every draft-related incentive to lose Sunday to a desperate Colts team with faint playoff hopes.

But you know these Colts. You’ve seen these Colts. You’ve seen them self-immolate in the biggest games. You saw them a week ago, giving up 23 quick points to the Titans, turning a 38-7 third-quarter lead into a 38-30 victory. And you saw them Sunday getting burnt to a crisp by (heaven help me) Drew Lock, who had a perfect quarterback rating midway through the fourth quarter and finished 17-for-23 for 309 yards, four touchdowns and a passer rating of 155.3 (159.3 is considered perfection).

It’s amazing how many bad quarterbacks the Colts have resurrected. Trevor Lawrence put up career high numbers. Drake Maye had a career day. Lock had an out-of-body experience against Indy. Hell, even Malik Willis beat them, although he had a lot of help from Josh Jacobs and the Packers ground game.

The first casualty is a no-brainer. That’s Gus Bradley, the Colts terminally overmatched defensive coordinator. Basically, he’s going to be saved by the bell – they’re not going to fire him at this late date – but the moment this season ends, he’s got to be on his way. Greyhound, an Uber, whatever it takes. His entire time here, the Colts have been a bottom five defensive team. And they’re not without talent, best I can tell.
