Well, Rigoberto Sanchez is in mid-season form. He punted seven times for a 54.4 average (43 yards net) in Saturday’s desultory 34-6 preseason loss to the Atlanta Falcons at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Beyond that, there was little to nothing to recommend this dreadful affair, during which the Colts’ special teams continually committed penalties, the offense went nowhere (and added plenty of drive-stunting penalties of their own) and the defense – oh, the defense – gave up 461 yards and 23 first downs while managing just 164 yards of offense and nine first downs.

How bad was it? The Colts didn’t convert a first down until there were 10 ½ minutes left in the game. Until then, they were 0-for-9, finishing 1-of-11. They didn’t reach the red zone until seven minutes remained. By then, there couldn’t have been 15,000 people, tops, left in the cleared-out stands.

Can’t blame them.
