I know I've jacked around my kind readers, retiring one minute, un-retiring the next, working for another website one minute, changing course the next. I apologize.
This piece is a breath of fresh air for readers like me who have been following you for quite some time. I've been reading your articles since your days at the IndyStar.
It wasn't too long ago when you mentioned in one of your articles that you will write for just a year or two. For you to say you'll be writing on Substack for the foreseeable future is awesome.
Nobody covers Indiana sports as well as you do (Scott Agness is a close second). I don't even bother reading Gregg Doyel's articles on the IndyStar. Keep doing what you've been doing. Subscribing to your website has been a game-changer! Keep up the great work!
Was wondering about that. Glad to have you here, Bob.
Maybe you could bring out a greatest hits of articles on occasion? Like the one where Marvin caught two TD passes late in his career but still would not talk post game. “I hate, therefore I am” was a great one-liner. So was “the end zone kept getting in the way”.
I’m happy to support your independent voice. This platform has allowed you to open up and share insights that most of us have never known. Glad you aren’t retiring.
I do love your Substack site. It is great writing with great insights and great analyses. It is also refreshing to witness and be a tiny part of a quaint one-man-band that also has an impact. In this era of mega-media corporations in which content and viewpoints may get distorted, you are still a North Star 💫 Bob!
Just to give each of you some perspective on my praise-filled comments for Bob, I have been “reading” Bob since the time when we were each in college working for the IDS. That’s 44 years ago. Of course Bob wrote a sports column, and as the Sports Editor I would have the duty of editing his “stuff” as we would say. I would always say to myself: “Who in the hell am I to edit Bob’s columns?” I was correct.
Welcome back. Always enjoy your point of view. Waiting for you to weigh in on the issue of names on the back of IU mens basketball shirts. Again, welcome back.
Keep going Bob! FYI I'm not going anywhere either. Happy to hear you are staying with this as I enjoy reading your columns. Hopefully this and your good golf game keep fueling you! Bob G.
I have played with you actually at Prarie View on a beautiful fall afternoon. You played 9 holes in our threesome. Two guys were a father and son. You and I were in a cart and I was even after six and blew up. I think I scared you away! That said, I know you’re a decent player!
YAYYY!
My man! Best news of the day.
Glad to have you back! Been reading your columns for a lot of years!
Good News! Keep writing. I'm another who has enjoyed your unique views since Indy Star days.
Welcome back

I thought that might've been how things played out. I'll be here until I finally get a slice of that retirement cake!
Thanks, Shane. You’ve always been there.
Fantastic news Bob! I’ve been reading/enjoying your columns since I moved to Indy 20+ years ago and enjoy you on radio as well!
Keep going Bob! FYI I'm not going anywhere either. Happy to hear you are staying with this as I enjoy reading your columns. Hopefully this and your good golf game keep fueling you! Bob G.
You haven’t seen me play, have you?

Bob, I’m thrilled you’re back, I hope you keep doing this for a long time.
Great News Bob.. Now, if you could only play forward for the Pacers...
