MY COUCH, Ind. -- Dunces. That’s what they are, these Colts. I’ve seen some dumb football, mistake-prone football, but I am hard pressed to recall a game when a team, fighting for its playoff life, self-sabotaged more thoroughly than the Colts did Sunday in their 31-13 loss in Denver.
Where do we start?
We start with the player who is The Reason why the Colts are going to miss the playoffs for a second consecutive season under Shane Steichen and a fourth straight year with Chris Ballard in charge: That’s Jonathan Taylor, a smart guy – he was accepted to several Ivy League schools – who did an incredibly dumb thing. I could see dropping the football a half-yard from the endzone from a rookie; no, that’s not true, I can’t see anybody being that obtuse. This was Leon Lett foolish (look it up, kids). Inexplicable. Unforgiveable. Mind-boggling. Why are you dropping the ball? Is it too heavy? Was he concentrating on his endzone celebration? This is a veteran player, the third-highest paid running back in the league, a player who should know better.
Hell, a peewee football player should know better.
