Caitlin Clark, the greatest show in basketball, is coming to Indy
With back-to-back No.1 overall picks (Aliyah Boston was the choice last year), the Fever are in position to become the center of the WNBA world
Caitlin Clark is coming to town and the Indiana Fever, a mismanaged franchise that routinely whiffed on lottery picks in recent years, are ready to become the center of the WNBA universe. What I’m saying is, get your tickets and get them now because the greatest show in women’s basketball, maybe the greatest show in sports, will be plying her trade at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for the next decade or more.
Sports in Indianapolis just got a lot more interesting. The Colts have (we hope) an ascendant young quarterback in Anthony Richardson. The Pacers have a compelling young team led by 24-year-old All-Star Tyrese Haliburton. And now comes Clark, the University of Iowa megastar who will surely break Pete Maravich’s all-time college scoring mark in her next game Sunday. She needs 18 points to own the mark (while noting that Pistol Pete, the ultimate gunner, did not play during the 3-point shot era.)
Clark made it official Thursday, informing the world she would forgo her fifth year (her Covid year) in Iowa City and make herself available for the upcoming WNBA Draft. That top pick belongs to the Fever for the second straight year, and history tells us that teams who go back-to-back with No. 1 overall picks go on to have massive success. Aliyah Boston was the prize last year and fulfilled every lofty expectation that was placed upon her.
Can you imagine Boston and Clark in the pick and roll?
Can you imagine Clark dropping logo bombs on the Gainbridge floor?
Can you imagine championships – plural – with Boston and Clark leading the way?
Of course you can.
